The Sugar House Dentist

My family and I moved out of Salt Lake last summer. We definitely took for granted how good of a setup we had with Dr. Theurer and the Sugar House team. My wife and I saw Dr. Theurer about twice a year for 5-6 years and never had any issues. They gave our daughter her first exams and she was always happy and loved her little toy reward. We never had to wait past appointment times, routine visits were easy for everyone, and they even have a really cool 3D teeth mapping system thingy. I had some cavities that had to be filled and their rates were definitely fair. Dr. Theurer and the hygienists were always kind, efficient, and helpful. We never had any issues with billing - even with things that insurance wouldn’t cover. After seeing what people have to deal with at other dentists, which I was naive to for the past 6+ years, I felt compelled to search them up to give a good review. I would recommend The Sugar House dentist to anyone living in Salt Lake. Definitely one of the good ones.

Both Dr Theurer and Dr Thorup are amazing. There are many dentists where I live, but we drive out of our way to this office because they have great bedside manner, are kind people and do great work.

A while back, I had a brother visiting from out of state who needed emergency dental care. The dental office schedule was completely booked, but Dr Thorup made time the very next morning to see my brother. I’m happy to say my brother healed up perfectly and still talks about his positive experience at this office.

I have never had any billing issue with this office. If a big procedure needs to take place, they give the cost of procedure upfront and the amount insurance should cover. After my copay and waiting for insurance to cover their portion, I’ve had zero billing issues.

Had the best experience here. Christopher gave me the best cleaning I ever had! He was so knowledgeable and explained everything to me. He gave me recommendations that were easy to do and obtainable. Dr. Thorup was very personable and gave me great recommendations too and made me feel really comfortable. Everyone in the office made me feel really welcome. I would recommend this office over and over again!!

If I could give 10 stars to this establishment, I would in a heartbeat. I have been going to Dr. Thorup (the mvp!) for 4 years now, and he has changed my life in unforeseen and unimaginable ways. How, you may be wondering?!? Well, first, he completely changed my perspective on dental care. I came to him after YEARS of experiencing severe tooth pain and tooth decay ( I lost over 7 teeth due to the acute anxiety I had from a very unpleasant dental experience); however, from the first time I sat in Dr. Thorup's chair, I immediately felt heard, seen, and believed. He carefully honored my pain and anxiety, but also worked to move me from it so he could administer much needed care for my poorly maintained teeth. Four years later ( with one root canal, two implants, and a bridge/crown), that gentle patience and detailed care that he embodies, has led me to have a beautiful smile that had improved my mental, physical, and emotional health. No longer do I have to hide my smile or close my mouth in photos. Thanks to Dr. Thorup and his AMAZING staff, I can smile again, be confident again, and experience life without fear. Going to his office didn't just fix my teeth- it showed me how my life had been consumed with fear, resulting in a lack of trust for many humans in the health care world. I am grateful for the smile I am exuding as I write this post, and I credit that all to Dr. Thorup and the fabulous folks over at Sugar House Dentistry!

I’d give a zero star if I could!!!
Watch your billing on these guys. I paid my normal amount for the services I NORMALLY RECEIVED when my girl aerial worked there. They put me with someone else because she was sick. I THOUGHT I RECEIVED MY NORMAL TREATMENT only to months later get told I had an outstanding bill. I asked Savanna look into it because I paid my normal amount on my HSA card.
She call almost a month later after that call, to tell me that the dentist said he did more product and that’s why there was an outstanding bill.
Nothing was said about using more product until months later when they wanted more money. Nothing was said when I was in the chair and why wouldn’t they go by the records my normal girl charted.
I will never go there again!!!

I have a terrible fear of dentistry after a lifetime of bad experiences. I went to see Dr. Thorup and have been able to get all the care I was putting off. Amazing and kind staff and gentle and patient hygienists & doctor.

I have a severe dental phobia, which began in childhood with the extraction of my wisdom teeth without anesthesia. As an adult I would neglect my dentist visits for years and years. My dearest friend talked me into trying the doctor and staff at Sugar House Dentist. Dr. Jared Theurer was kind, patient, professional, concerned and caring. He took the time to listen to my fear and worry and he asked me how he could work with me to ease my discomfort. He was funny and very nice. Dr. Theurer and I agreed that he would talk me through everything he would do to repair my broken molar, a severely cracked tooth and prepare for a crown. The talking built trust and I felt very comfortable getting my teeth repaired. Dr. Theurer and his lovely office staff and nurses are wonderful and I’m a patient for the rest of my life.

I paid my balance as always when my appointment was completed sometime in early 2020. Apparently my insurance paid less than expected, and I had a balance on my account. Rather than contact me through a barrage of phone calls and text messages like they do when they want to confirm an appointment, I was never once called or was sent a bill to let me know there was a balance on my account. The first and only time I knew anything about it was when I checked my credit report and noticed a mysterious collection attempt. The Sugar House Dentist could easily have fixed this mistake, but of course they said they'd called me several times and sent several statements in the mail ... which of course was a lie. No mail, no phone calls, no voicemail, no 30 text messages. Just a horrible, shady experience with folks in the billing department not competently doing their jobs and then lying to cover their tracks. I'm sure the practice manager or owner will respond and say they called me several times, but my phone records would indicate otherwise. I would avoid this practice entirely unless you like to be lied to by your dental care provider.

This was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had at a dentist’s office. Had X-rays and a thorough cleaning done - all executed gently and relatively painlessly, with regular check-ins on my comfort level. The staff are professional, kind, and informative and the space was very clean. 100% plan to return for my next checkup.

Amazing dentist. If you have any anxiety about the dentist, come to this place! Dr. Theurer and Thorup are amazing. They do quality work, they show they care, they use new technology, they work with you. The one hygienist I have seen there is the best hygienist I have ever had. Sometimes at my past office, they are so rough and I dislike the experience, but here it’s always fantastic.
