I came to this dentist after between 8-12 years of not going to the dentist because of insurance and school, so I was anxious. I came into the office and the waiting area is a little small, but clean and welcoming. There was an adorable dog walking around and it hoped up on my lap and it made me feel more calm. Then they brought me back for the cleaning and exam, which was thorough. They informed me that I have 3 small cavities and I needed a night guard for my teeth, which explains why I have jaw pain sometimes. I had the cavities filled yesterday. I was super anxious about that, especially since I thought I might have to be numbed. They told me that I should be fine without numbing, but asked about 3-4 times if I was sure that I didn't wait to be numbed for comfort. Throughout the drilling and filling, she was great about asking if I was doing ok and switched between the least worst and worst cavity, so that the sensation wasn't as intense the whole time. They also kept reminding me that I was doing a great job. They have an awesome team here and I'm so glad I chose James River Family Dentistry.

Everyone at this office is incredibly kind, patient, and helpful! Jessica at the front desk was able to schedule my appointments with a quick turn around, the hygienists were personable and judgement free, and Dr Guthrie explained what she was doing and checked in frequently during my fillings (this really helped with easing my anxiousness during the procedure). I would highly recommend this office to anyone in the area.

It is obvious that the treatments are based on cutting edge technology, and unlike dental visits when I was growing up, these are never painful.
