I was always afraid of the Dentist until I came to you! I absolutely LOVE the staff because they ALL make you feel comfortable and they show TRUE COMPASSION and concern! I usually see Cristin, Jessica & Dr. Guthrie at every visit and I always look forward to it. Dr. Guthrie if I hear someone is looking for a Dentist I always recommend you. You’re the BEST and the coolest, realest Dentist ever!

After contacting James River Family Dentist for a new patient appointment, I was impressed from the very moment my call was answered. The staff was courteous, helpful and genuine. I could tell by my initial interaction that all the staff are happy in their work environment. Ally, the dental hygienist was kind, professional and thorough. Her sweet demeanor and obvious skill made me that I was in good hands. She is talented. Dr. Guthrie was also impressive. She was genuine in her greeting and presented with such positive energy that again I felt I was in good hands. I especially felt that the lines of communication are open and that all the staff and Dr. Guthrie are sincere in providing the best dental care for their patients.

Easily the best dental experience of my life. The staff at James River is warm, welcoming, organized, and professional. One of their noticeable differentiators is how well they communicate. They have a great text messaging system that makes it quick and easy to talk with someone directly (rather than just a bot) so scheduling and reminders are incredibly easy, and they've even gotten me in early on multiple occasions. Dr. Guthrie and her team take the time to explain their recommendations and treatment plans, and don't push a bunch of extras. I always leave the office feeling heard. They're great about making you feel comfortable from the moment you walk in, including thoughtful little touches like bottled water and a Keurig in the waiting room, and the world's cutest office dog. I'm so grateful we found this practice and I can't imagine going anywhere else.

I chose this dentist's office because they accept my dental insurance and are close to my home. The staff were great and got me in for my appointment quickly. The hygienist did a deep cleaning for me which took longer than usual because I have braces (about 45 minutes), but I could tell my teeth looked less stained when I left. Dr. Guthrie was also great. She noticed that a couple of bands were missing from my braces, which was helpful because I was able to contact my orthodontist and get them replaced. Overall I had a very good experience here and would recommend to others.

This has been is hands down the best experience I’ve had with a dentist’s office. Their outgoing and professional staff, level of education and care, and implementation of the latest technologies all come together to make me less nervous to be in a chair under a bright light.

I’ve always dealt with some level of doctor anxiety, but these people have helped me feel welcome and like I should take more care on my own because I deserve to have good quality of life when it come to my dental health!

Also, the tunes are always good - no Kenny G or Yanni!

I am an old guy and, over the course of my lifetime, have dealt with at least a handful of dental offices. Recently the dentist I had used for years retired, so I sought a replacement. James River Family Dentistry was close and convenient, so I gave it a try.

I was blown away-- everything about my visit was light years ahead of anything I had experienced. The ambiance was friendly and caring, the service was thorough and competent (and pain-free), and the technology was state-of-the-art. I am grateful for the value received.

My search for a replacement dental office has ended. When it comes to dental matters, I now choose James River Family Dentistry. I recommend it.

I would recommended this practice to everyone. They were able to get me in on an emergency basis and help me with my issues. The staff is friendly and empathic. And, very professional.

I found Dr. Marci Gutherie and her staff to be very professional, and informed of what I would need as her patient, during this Pandemic. There was special equipment to circulate the air. She also was seeing one patient at a time and required that patience stay in their car until called to come in for their appointment. Dr. Gutherie has been my dentist over several years and I am glad she was available to see me.
I would highly recommend Dr. Gutherie.

Dr. Guthrie is phenomenal! We are a family of 7 and all our dental needs go to her! So do all our recommendations! 5 yo recently needed his tongue released and it was a perfectly smooth and flawless visit🎊 When we had arrived for the procedure, he actually had a big grin and said how excited he was. Same bright smile when we left!🙌💜

My family and I loved our last dentist but had to find a new one after realizing they were out-of-network. I didn't think I would like another practice as much but James River Dentistry is awesome. I was very pleased with Dr. Guthrie and her staff. They work really well as a team. The office and equipment is state of the art. I liked being able to see my X-rays on the screen while they explained things to me. They are also easy to communicate with for scheduling and let you know what future charges will be. They send communications via text which is so convenient. I even texted a question at 9:30pm thinking they'll just respond in the morning and they wrote back right away! My first visit was a cleaning/check up and I had some fillings done on my second visit. I am pleased with the whole experience and my husband and daughter are too.
