Happy with the hygienists and surgeon. They were pleasant and obviously I’m happy they took care of my child. However, they need their billing agents to clearly explain how the billing process will work. I have medical insurance for my son and not dental. My son saw his regular dentist for cavities and tooth pain, he referred us here and they said he needed 6 crowns and two teeth pulled. They said his teeth were “high risk”. I paid $4,300 out of pocket the same day we were seen for just the dental portion. They called and got us into surgery that week instead of two weeks later-the original date of the surgery. That was nice because my son was in pain.

The billing person asked which facility I wanted to use (Same Day Surgery Center or RC Regional Hospital) and when I said I wasn’t sure she circled Same Day in the sheet. She told me they’d bill me for anesthesia and part would be covered under medical insurance, so to call them and see how much it would be. I called and got the general figures from them. Not only do you have to pay for anesthesia, you also pay an astronomical cost to use that facility (2,000 more combined after insurance). Then today I received a bill for $1,089.00 from Rapid City Regional Hospital for service on the date of his surgery. We didn’t even step foot in that hospital! So it costs nearly $8,000 for crowns now? That’s more than my son’s entire surgery to repair both of his eyes that included pre-op appointments, post-op and a hospital stay. I’m praying this last bill is a mistake because I don’t know how they can charge you for something you didn’t even use. None of this was clearly explained.

I have to say they did refund me around $300 that I paid for the dental portion, and they didn’t do a pulpotomy on one tooth because it didn’t need it after all. I am thankful for that. Honestly, I’d use this facility again if I had Medicaid or something, but i can’t afford another $8,000 out of pocket. And I don’t feel that the extra costs were clearly explained; they were more like hidden costs.

Staff is friendly and my child looks forward to her appointments. The only unpleasant thing is we have always had to wait 30 to 40 minutes past our appointment time. I always schedule early morning in hope of avoiding this but it doesnt seem to matter.

We have always had a great experience with BH Pediatric Dentistry. They treat my daughters like family and are very caring and informative. I am very happy with this dentist office!

We had an appt at 3:20 and she did not get in until 4. I wish all pediatric offices would understand that it is very inconvenient for them to overbook themselves for the client- especially when it comes to Peds.
As for the actual visit, everything was great.

Extremely cap happy always wanting to put kids under and put caps on . We finally went for a second opinion after taking my three boys for two years. Our new dentists did a few filliings.Thier dentists are rude and money hungry they do not care about the children they only care about how much money they can scam out of people. Not to mention if you have a scheduled appointment make sure to show up an hour before so you can be seen at your appointment time.

The staff were pleasant and professional.
However, there were way too many people in the waiting room. It appears that business is more important than social distancing for the protection of all.

The staff are all super friendly and worked hard to help my toddler feel comfortable when she was nervous. Everyone is professional and patient. I highly recommend Black Hills Pediatric Dentistry!

My son needed 3 cavities filled. His regular doctor sent him here to have that done. We waited on a list for 4 months before being seen. Dentist barely looks in his mouth and says they want to wait three months before they will consider fixing the cavities. We come back three months later. At this point the cavities were getting worse and chipping. Was told once again to come back in three months. It's now been 10 months since the referral. We go back and get told that there is nothing they will do at this point. When I got upset, I was told my options were "pull them or leave them". My son was only two at the time and these were three of his top front teeth. I drove 6 hours both ways and got him into a dentist in Sioux Falls who helped us immedietly. I would never recommend anyone bring their child to Black Hills Pediatric Dentistry.

Overall experience was great! Staff was knowledgeable and kind. 4 stars considered only because of the NOISY toy that attracts EVERY child in that waiting room. Haha... gotta love kids!
