Since I have a complicated dental issue, I wanted to switch dentists from Dr. David Monin to Dr. Jonathan Millen, who has much more experience. I made an appointment with Dr. Millen. Dr. Monin instructed the office manager, Estela Simaku, to cancel the appointment because he did not want me to see Dr. Millen. Ms. Simaku canceled the appointment without telling me. I only found out it was canceled when I called myself to confirm the appointment.

But this is not nearly the worst of it. Dr. Monin told me that I would have to leave the clinic if I wanted to be seen by any other doctor there than himself. I said that is unacceptable for a dentist to prevent me from being seen by another dentist. I asked to speak to Dr. Millen directly.

Later that (Saturday) afternoon, Ms. Simaku called me from her personal phone. She said that Dr. Monin had spoken to Dr. Millen, and they both agreed that I should leave the clinic if I wanted to be seen by Dr. Millen. This did not make any sense to me on many levels. Why would Dr. Millen prefer that I leave the clinic than by seen by him? Why would Ms. Simaku be calling me from her personal phone on a Saturday afternoon (when the office is closed) to tell me that I should leave the clinic?

The reason became obvious to me: Dr. Monin preferred that I leave the clinic than switch to Dr. Millen. And Dr. Monin wanted me to believe that Dr. Millen agreed with him that I should leave the clinic so I would leave before getting to speak to Dr. Millen myself.

That evening, I reached out to Dr. Millen via LinkedIn and told him what Dr. Monin and Ms. Simaku had told me. An hour later, I received an email from Ms. Simaku stating that Dr. Millen "would be happy to meet with me." This email was sent around 9 pm on a Saturday night!

A few hours earlier, Ms. Simaku had told me that Dr. Millen thought I should leave the clinic. Now Dr. Millen was happy to see me? Either my message to Dr. Millen caused him to suddenly and drastically change his mind, or Dr. Monin and Ms. Simaku LIED to me.

I think it is clear to anyone with half a brain that Dr. Monin LIED about speaking to Dr. Millen so that I would leave the clinic and not be able to switch to Dr. Millen. Dr. Monin thought I was stupid enough to believe that Dr. Millen would rather I leave the clinic than be seen by him. Ms. Simaku is also guilty for being complicit in these UGLY LIES.

I have made all members of upper level management aware of this episode of gross ethical misconduct, including the CEO of 42 North Dental and the owners of Gentle Dental (who own and operate this clinic). I am filing complaints against Dr. Monin and Ms. Simaku with the American Dental Association and the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Dentistry.

I will not stop until it is confirmed to me that Dr. Monin and Ms. Simaku have been TERMINATED from their employment and until I receive a formal written apology from Newberry Dental Associates, Gentle Dental, and 42 North Dental. I am prepared to file complaints with the ADA and Massachusetts Board of Registration in Dentistry against 42 North Dental unless they do this in a timely manner. Dr. Monin should forfeit his license to practice dentistry for lying to a patient. I trust that it will be revoked soon.
