New patient here. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the facility was, as well as how professional the staff were. From the greetings by Liz and Kim, to the well done and professional work by Latoya for my cleaning, I would definitely recommend Laurelwood!

Absolute worst dentist ever. They get your insurance information. Before treatment they sit you down, present you a bill that has to be paid immediately. Then they file claim with insurance, and months later turn you into collection for not paying. I worked at Mission and had their dental insurance which they said they accepted, and had experience with. Months later they send me a bill for thousands for teeth cleaning for four family members. No dental work done. Dishonest practice.

Laurel wood family Dentistry is by far one of the best dentist I’ve been to. Staff is friendly and informative. Doctor seems to care about his staff and patients and it shows. I highly recommend this practice.

The billing and customer service are horrendous. For the first time since I've been a patient, I received a bill for my preventative cleaning. I assumed at first this was just a mistake, so I called to check. I was told that this is just how my benefits paid, and that I should refer to my EOB if I had questions. I was frustrated with the lack of care and the "figure it out yourself" response, but was left with no other option. After reviewing my EOB, I noticed that I had been charged for 2 new services that had never been billed before and those services had applied to my deductible. I called back to ask about these services and was told that the standard of care had changed, and those are now new routine services. I asked why I wasn't informed of the change, and why my benefits weren't verified to ensure these services were covered. I was told my benefits were verified, but they were not going to do anything on their end to get the claim paid. I was told again that I just had to figure it out myself. They gave me the reference number from their call with my insurance so that I could call and check. I called my insurance company and she confirmed that those services were NOT covered as preventable, and the last time that my benefits had been verified was 3/23/2018 (which aligned with the reference number they gave me)! So they performed a new service that wasn't verified and then billed me for it. I was not informed anything had changed, or that there might even be a chance I would get a bill. The worst part is that they do not care at all. They are adamant that this is my issue, and they will do nothing to help. I am absolutely floored at their inability to even fake that they care. I will not be going back here, and it's unfortunate because I really enjoyed my hygienist. She was great.

Laurelwood Family Dentistry is an excellent dental office and overall experience. Dr Ertl is very professional and knowledgeable. The office staff are pleasant, and well educated. The office is kept clean, with meticulous cleaning after use of all items, and sterile instruments. Patient experience is number one!!!

Not a good dentist office! Avoid at all costs! The owner responded and stated I am not a patient. However, I have first hand experience with my own insurance with the billing practices of this office. The way they bill is driving up the costs of healthcare per my insurance. I noticed that the threat to bring legal counsel to me was removed.

My experience is that this practice is having difficulty maintaining revenue as evidenced by attempts to up-sell and pressure to get lots of work done as quickly as possible. While an active client, they would call me randomly to encourage me to come in for a cleaning or to follow up on services that were previously not recommended. This ultimately resulted in them performing a service that was not covered by my insurance yet they did so without my informed consent. Yet expected me to pay. When I contested it, the office was adament that I be held responsible until a supervisor returned my call and informed me the dentist would waive the fee as a “professional” courtesy, despite me never agreeing to the service. Nice enough, So, as a result, I decided to give them another chance. I called to schedule an appointment and explained I had new insurance coverage and offered to provide my insurance info prior to the appointment so that they could confirm coverage and to PREVENT them from providing a service that would not be covered (i.e. I don’t want any unexpected expenses). At the end of the call and after my appointment was scheduled, I was prompted to provide an internet review, I gave a very brief, “average” review. They called me back to discuss my review, I returned the call to learn they have now decided that I cannot be a patient there because I didn’t pay a bill within 90 days....the SAME bill that was waived for “professional courtesy” for their providing a service without informed consent. ......

Update:: went to another dentist and told them the story. The service they were charging me for was a cancer screening of my gums. The new dentist doesn’t charge for these and announced when he was about to do it- all it includes is looking at the gums.

I wish I could give this place a lower rating for their poor business practices! While the care that I received was fine (I do not think that I was treated for anything I did not need like so many other people talk about in their reviews), the greed of this place is disgusting. Get this- following our first appointment, my husband and I sit down for a financial consultation with Amanda, the office staff. We go over the price for each of services needed as well as what we can expect to pay out of pocket. For example, I needed a crown for one of teeth and they said the procedure cost $965. My insurance covered the procedure at 50% so I would pay $482.50. Based on this consultation, we schedule some work, but not all the work because it would have been too costly for us. We paid the amount due at the time of each service, over a $1000 in total. Yes, expensive, but I knew what I was paying and I felt that I received good care. BUT THEN the dentist office charged my insurance more then the quoted amount (almost twice the amount in the case of some procedures) and demanded that I pay the difference. For example, that crown that cost $965 was billed to insurance for $1,542. My insurance paid half of this amount and my responsibility went from $482.50 to $771.00 after the procedure had already been completed. Given this information at the front end, I would have chosen another dentist, but those chose to lie about the cost of the service and demanded that I pay the difference even though they banked $289 more from my insurance company than what was expected (based on the consultation). They did this with every single procedure that we had done. They then said that they HAD TO bill the remainder to us. NO, THEY DO NOT! IT IS GREEDY AND POOR BUSINESS PRACTICE!
