I visited Laurelwood Family Dentistry as a new patient today and I was very happy with my experience! The Dentist and hygienist were both very knowledgeable and explained everything to me throughout the appointment. I appreciated the time they took with me. I will continue to visit this practice!

Several comments: Cleaning and exam in December were fine. I scheduled an appointment for January for a crown and filling replacement. I paid a deposit to hold the appointment $420 (their requirement). When I realized I would need to pay for nitrous oxide out of pocket, I called to find out the price and was quoted $850!!! I have paid for this at other dental offices (dental anxiety) and have NEVER paid anything close to that. Canceled the appointment. When I asked about a refund of my deposit, I was told they would not do anything until the dental insurance claim was processed. I waited a couple of weeks and verified that the claim had been paid. When I called back to ask about the refund, I was told that they had resubmitted the claim because one of the items was denied and that they wouldn’t refund until THAT claim closed. I told them the item likely would not be paid and they should deduct the amount from the deposit and refund the rest. They refused. I have filed a complaint with the BBB.

Update: I have spoken with Dr. Ertl who called me to apologize for the way this was handled. He confirmed that the quote of $850 for nitrous oxide was incorrect and should not have been given. The actual price is as expected. He also explained that the unreasonable attitude was a single employee and that issue has been addressed. I will likely reschedule and have the work done at this practice.

Beware, this office will inflate prices, even after you confirm the cost of your visit.
The staff is very misleading when it comes to the cost of procedures.
I was told on 2 different dates that I had a $0 balance from a routine office visit, because it was covered on insurance. When I went back 5 days later I suddenly owed an extra $125.
When I scheduled a different procedure 2 weeks in advance I was called THE DAY BEFORE THE PROCEDURE and was told I was misquoted by the office staff, they "forgot to check a box" and it would be close to an extra $1,000 to proceed.
If you question them about their misrepresentation of prices they will play it off as a misunderstanding on your part.
The misunderstanding isn't on my behalf. The issue comes from the staff misrepresenting the cost of services, lying to patients.
If you read through reviews from other patients, you will see there are numerous people that have had the same issue.

*IN RESPONSE TO BUSINESS:
When a patient sits down in your chair and asks "what is the total for todays visit" and the assistant says "Nothing, everything being done today is covered" that is NOT an "estimate" given by your staff. Then when I show up a month later I owe $125 from that visit I was told was covered by insurance.. that is a problem. A problem with YOUR staff misleading patients. And this extensive care you speak of was a routine cleaning and an attempt from your office at quoting me for a root canal, which they failed at doing as well. So, I stand by my review of your shady business practices and misleading your patients. But I do appreciate your generic response.

Horrible place. Staff and policies are very strange. Way too much initial paperwork to fill out. Dentist was OK, but found him a bit incompetent. Unable to tell me after X-rays if a crown should be replaced. Is that not within the the scope of knowledge one should have after dental school? And they cancel your appointments and charge crazy amounts for “broken appointments”, well before the appointment happens, just due to not answering when they call to confirm the appointment. Also, cleanings take absolutely forever! Very strange and kinda shady! Not headed there again. These people have “ugly” personalities. Very snotty. Sorry, but true.

BEWARE!! They have outrageous policies around taking your money. I had a terrible experience scheduling a crown. First of all just to schedule they required a deposit of almost $400. Which I paid. They made a mistake scheduling my appointment and refused to take ownership of their mistake and instead charged me an additional $55 on top of the nearly $400 deposit because of their error. The only other option they would "allow" me to do was to reschedule BUT only if I paid for the entire procedure right then / upfront?!!
I have never heard of having to pay upfront for dental work, they also will only estimate the cost and you have to overpay and get reimbursed by your insurance.
I FEEL LIKE I GOT ROBBED!!!!!!

I absolutely love Dr. Ertl! Me and family are patients. He is always so patient and detailed. I've seen almost all of the hygienist and they are just as wonderful. They are always smiling and informative. Liz at the front desk is always smiling and helpful. The guy at the front seem a little unhappy or just have a dry personality. (I don't recall his name) But overall I love this place.

Satisfied with products. Dissatisfied with service. Constant staff turnover. Moved on recently after nearly 2 years using practice regularly.

Laurelwood family dentistry is amazing! I've been going there for many years and have never had an unpleasant experience. Their staff is top notch...very friendly, professional.

I switched to laurelwood many years ago after my previous dentist started suggesting that I have a bunch of fillings...even though i was having no trouble with any of my teeth. Well, it turns out that none of the teeth needed fillings after all!!! So, a big thank you to Matt and his team for being honest professionals who, I feel, are genuinely determined to provide the absolute best dental care possible for their patients. My teeth are still fully intact thanks to you!

I also wanted to add...after reading through some of the other reviews, I honestly have to wonder if some of the people actually went to laurelwood family dentistry. Perhaps they are confusing laurelwood with another business?

I highly recommend them to anyone and everyone!!!

Don’t go to this dentist! All they care about is money and they will steal from you!
When I was in my first trimester of pregnancy I called in to find out how much my exam would be since I did not want the x-rays due to being pregnant. They let me know it would be the same charge regardless of x-rays or not. That was fine. I went in and when I refused the x-rays which I had told them I didn’t want over the phone, they refused me service, kept a portion of the money I had already paid them, saying it was because they treated it as a late cancellation. Even though I went there at my appointment time and was in the chair when they refused me treatment.
After all of this, the front desk staff told me I better go get an x-ray somewhere else or my baby would die.
This is a horrible office, terrible dentist, terrible front desk staff. Terrible people in general.
They don’t care about people and only care about money.
They steal and lie, don’t support them!

We have a second home in the area, and I was looking for a dentist that accepted my insurance. With dozens of options, I started to call from top of the list down for one with an available appointment that week. From the very first call with Liz, the receptionist, it was warm and welcoming. Liz got me in with minimal notice and every step of the way was smooth sailing. I hadn’t been to a dentist in a few years and had a lot of hesitancy, but the team made me feel very comfortable. The office is comfortable, and nicely designed. Latoya was my hygienist and she was a star! Her warm, friendly personality made me feel as though a friend was in charge, and eased my usual dental anxiety. The Doctor is very professional and nice, and knew his stuff. This is a busy office but makes you feel as though you are very important and special. 5 stars!!! Thank you, Laurelwood.
