I don't recommend Dr. Ertl as a dentist. I Rarely give a one star rating to businesses but I now have THREE issues with them. The first is that they gave me 2 different quotes for services, didn't seem to be keen on honoring the lower quote. Unfortunately I didn't get the lower quote in writing, I assumed it was on the quote given to me. (Never make assumptions). All I had was a full conversation about the lower quote with one of their employees and a firm amount that was given to me lodged in my head. When I asked about it, I was told that that person may have "misspoke". I'm not shady and this isn't some scheme. I know what was told to me and even told my husband about the lower amount when I called him after my appt. Second, I was told I needed work done that another popular dentist in the area said "wasn't necessary" and showed me proof on my xray that it WASN'T necessary. My now dentist said, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", which saved me quite a chunk of change. Third, it took them 7 months to refund my money on a prepaid service. Had I known I could have gotten a refund back then, I wouldn't have bothered to cash-in on my prepaid service. I had to initiate the refund, they weren't going to do it on their end.
I have another dentist I am thoroughly happy with now.

I've been to many dentist, and have had many procedures done. Sadly, this is the worst dentistry i have ever been too. Not only did i get the feeling that the dentist judged me, but feel they over charged me for many things. i called one evening to be seen for a severely infected tooth, they told me 100 something dollars for the visit, got there and they said oh you owes us another 100 something dollars for a image from months ago. i asked why did no one bill me or tell me 4 hours prior when i called to make a appointment, they replied idk, i guess it just (NOW) came through. really yet my insurance never billed me either. this dentist is money hungry and does not care about his patients as long as he is getting paid......wouldn't refer them to anyone in fact i encourage people to never go here. i could go on and on, they arent even worth a bad review. hopes this helps someone out. if you want a good dentist that loves his job and generally cares about his patients this is not the place for you.

Dr. Ertl is an extremely sociable and competent practitioner. Latoya is a wonderful assistant and I look forward to seeing her each visit. As long as you know for sure what your health plan covers, you will have a wonderful experience.

I am sorry about other people complains but my husband and I had a GREAT service with Dr Ertl and his staff for the 4-5 years we lived in the Asheville area. We moved to another state (20 hrs from NC :( and have been not able to find a dentist with such knowledge and care for the patients as Dr Ertl. He was always nice and reasonable with us. Never pushed us into any additional treatment. His office is beautiful, extra up to date to better service his clients. We really miss going to Laurelwood Dentistry. Dr Ertl is such a professional, will highly recommend. Do not pay attention to those "bad reviews". If you are really looking for a great dentist, don't look any further...you have to experience the great care yourself.

I had an appointment today to create restorative crowns on two front lower teeth.

This followed reverse root canal to cure an infection beneath the two older crowns which was performed by an Endodontist that Dr. Ertl referred me. I had no idea that I had the infection.

It was a 2.5 hour procedure. Dr. Ertl was outstanding as was his team.

I am infection free and feel better overall. Next week I will have my permanent crowns.

I highly recommend them .

Five Stars!

I live almost 200 miles away from Asheville yet I travel twice a year to Laurelwood Family Dentistry as my primacy care dentist. Yes, they are that good! Compassionate hygienists are a must and I've had good experiences at Laurelwood. Equipment is modern which also was a must-have for me. I need a few things done and Dr. Ertl and his staff make suggestions. No pressure ever to do something expensive or not necessary. Dr. Ertl clearly knows what he is doing and makes procedures as comfortable as possible. I love this dentist and will continue to travel to them for preventive and necessary dental care.

In 30 years of going to dental (and professional) offices, I have never seen one run so unprofessionally and unresponsive to patient needs. Money seems to be the only priority with this practice. During a routine crown procedure I was told 1/2 way through the process that an extra procedure was being done and my insurarance would not cover it. They would not even submit it and I was out $400. When I forced the submission, the insurance company covered a small piece of it. But Laurelwood (and Amanda and Dr. Ertl) would not recognize it. To date, after 6 months of phone calls and e-mails (along with insurance company inquiries) I have gotten no response -- and am still out $400. In addition, this practice REQUIRES x-rays EVERY time cleaning is done (6 months). They say ALL dentists require them each 6 months. This is NOT true --- it's all about revenue and bilking the client with this practice.

I'm always weary of choosing a new dentist, but after finding laurelwood w dr ertl and his amazing team I was able to just relax and trust their training and skills. From the front desk with Liz and Bobby , to my first cleaning and fillings, it's always the same authentic and caring environment and I feel truly taken care of every time I leave. If you have anxiety about looking for a new dentist in WNC, lay your worries down and choose Laurelwood!

I had a fantastic experience here, all the way from the front desk to the dental hygienist to the dentist! FABULOUS dental office. I have braces and although I am sure it was difficult, Hannah the dental hygienist was so patient and so kind while cleaning my teeth! Highly recommend this dental office to any and everyone, especially those with braces...all staff was super accommodating and helpful!

Before you consider going to this dentist please read the 44 ONE STAR reviews & save yourself the expense & frustration of dealing with this dental office. I regret financially that I didn't read the reviews as a 4.4 star average is very misleading. I have had to change dentist 7 times in 21 years due to insurance being dropped by my current dentist and every time I changed I was correctly quoted what my charges would be from all 7 new dentist, except Dr. Ertl! My last year dentist stopped taking my insurance so Dr. Ertl was in network & closest to my home. I made an appointment & even had my xrays sent over to his office thinking I wouldn't need new xrays. This was simply just a teeth cleaning & check up!! Upon making my appointment I gave my insurance information to front desk rep & asked her what my charges would be. She quoted charges stating they would be at the most $100.00 & only if he required extensive xrays. Keep in mind last year my then in network dentist charged me 0 for my two teeth cleanings & xrays! I advised her I wanted to use the same xrays & not have more. When I arrived for my appointment She stated I needed to pay before I could see him. I once again told her I didn't want more xrays taken. She stated he would have to make that decision & I still needed to pay in case he did. I should of walked out then. Needless to say he required more xrays so I thought oh well I'm out $100.00. He found a few possible future problems & stated I needed a few cavities filled & a night guard for night teeth grinding. I had one already however, he stated I needed a better one. Before leaving they sent me to an office to show future charges. Next appointment charges were to be $2,032 & we offer financing!! Keep in mind I am not having any problems. His charge for the night guard was $1,178-my last dentist quoted me $432.00 for the exact same guard. I knew I would not be going back after realizing it's all about him making$$$$! Oh by the way I was billed an additional $73.55 two weeks later by mail!! Of course they blamed the insurance company. I called my insurance company & the rep stated they could plainly see what my charges would be & stated it was their mistake! I asked for a credit since it was her error & she supposedly talked to the dentist with him stating they had no more credits they could give since this was cheaper in network billing!!! What a joke!! I paid the bill & asked them to send xrays etc. back to my old dentist! I would of saved money just going to my old dentist & not filling insurance as she charges $150.00 for teeth cleaning & check up for people without insurance! Don;t trust anything this office advises including whatever made up response they give!!!!!
