Good at their jobs. Gave me rushed explanations about my dental health that I didn't fully understand because they were to busy running from place to place. The entire place is absolutely covered in ads for dental products from many different companies. Sent me many, many obnoxious emails asking me to review them, so here is the review.

Aspen Dental, despite being very frustrating to get in and get started up with, has some excellent staff in the State College office. I have never had a dental hygienist do such a thorough job!

The dentists don't care about your medical history what so ever. I went in for a tooth extraction and I told them 4 times that I have a medical condition and need specific medication since I cannot take ibuprofen or OTC medication. I've been here before, they should be well aware of my condition since it's in my records and they have my list of medications. It was put in my file that I'm allergic to ibuprofen by the nurses even prior to being seen by the dentist. The dentist comes in with a woman with a clip board to watch her pull out my tooth with no explanation of who this person was. The woman had plain clothes on and no identification. After the extraction I was still told by that dentist to take ibuprofen and that I shouldn't have any pain anyway. Then I was told to take OTC medications, if not then ice. I called them about 3 hours later once all the novacaine wore off and I was finally prescribed something else. In the mean time I had to call my primary care doctor who was waiting to hear back if they still wouldnt prescribe me anything to come in and receive a prescription from a doctor.
Additionally, I have never, ever, been to a dentist where they don't go over the actual procedure, nor give you papers on what to do after the procedure, or tell you what the next steps will be, nor tell you what future treatment will look like for an implant.
This is the absolute most unprofessional dental clinic I've ever been to. I've gotten dental work done on base, and even the U-Penn students do a better job than Aspen. Dont go here, seek treatment at Mt Nittany Dental or elsewhere.
Needless to say I won't be going back.

I’ve been waiting over a week to get a tooth extracted and came in today for said extraction and was told that they don’t have me in their computer. I legit handed these people my appointment card. They say let us look at Tuesday. My sinuses are infected and it has moved into my chest because of this tooth. And I’m told let me look at Tuesday. Absolutely ridiculous.

I scheduled my appointment and my child’s appointment so that I could be with him during his exam and cleaning. I did everything on my end such as arriving early, and keeping with appointment and communicating with Aspen Dental weeks in advance so that we can make this happen.
The dental hygienist (Kary?) did not tell me nor ask me that she was taking my son to the back to begin on him. I was in the X-ray room. I could not see nor hear her and she did not tell me what she was doing. I made it clear to the women performing my X-ray that I was very uncomfortable that I was not with my 6 year. And she was fully aware of that. Even though I communicated to her that I wanted to be with my son she told me she had to complete the x-rays. She made no effort to accommodate my wishes.
Kary, showed aggression when I communicated my dissatisfaction and she admitted to not informing me of taking my child to the back. She roughly threw the fluoride and cleaning tool onto the little table. She argued with my 6 year old regarding “not hurting him” even though he had tears running down his cheek. And raised her voice. Meanwhile the dentist was clam collective and professional. The dentist office can be scary for a kindergartener and Kary showed no compassione towards him.
Evalyne? (The women completing my X-ray) later apologized for not listening to me. This office showed no consideration nor compassion towards us and customer service by these two employees are contrary to the wall unscription that is displayed in the back where the last service chair is.
To be fair, I requested for another hygienist to complete my exam and she was wonderful.

Dr. R was great and very good with my mother who has dementia. And the office and dental assistant were also quite kind and friendly.

I was in rural PA out of town for work when I had a cracked molar turn into an emergency at 5:30pm. I figured I was screwed and would need to go to the emergency room or suffer overnight with excruciating pain and possible severe infection.
I found out Aspen was open until 7 and just walked into the office at 6:15. The staff was incredibly helpful, kind, professional, and accommodating. They were very upfront on procedures, costs, and what to expect every step of the way, from the x-ray, to the exam, to the eventual extraction of a molar the same day.
If I lived in this area permanently, they would have a lifetime customer.

I had an chipped tooth and needed to check to see if it would be cause for further dental care. Aspen Dental was quick to see me, did not take extra x-rays which would have been extra $$$, and then reassured me that it was only a chip off the porcelain part of a crown. The dentist sanded it down a bit and sent me on my way.
Great service!

The dental technician that took care of me first took an X-ray of my entire face and head. Next we went to another room and she proceeded to do bite wing X-rays. After she had touched the lead apron that she puts on everyone, and touched the handle of the X-ray machine, she just grabbed a pair of gloves and put them on and was going to put the bite wings in my mouth. I told her that she needed to perform hand hygiene before she put her hands in my mouth. She just said, oh, yeah, and went to get a container of Purelle. They don’t have any dispensers on the wall, and there was done on the counter by the second X-ray machine. Who puts their hands in another persons mouth without cleaning their hands? The department of health needs to be notified of these dangerous practices. The next thing that the tech did was repeatedly push the bite wings to the back of my mouth, I nail I dry heaved and gaged! Not once , but repeatedly! Next the hygienist, who was arrogant , unfriendly and rough came to do a gum gap test. She exaggerated every tooth by one number. I had this done 1 1/2 years earlier by one of the best dentists in the DC metro area. So either this hygienist didn’t know what she was doing, or she was lying. Either way, neither was good. Then she said she didn’t have time to clean my teeth that day and that I’d have to come back for that. The dentist that checked my teeth did an ok job, that is why I gave 2 stars. Other wise, I would give a negative number. My husband is a military officer, and I’ve been to a lot of dental offices, and the tech and hygienist were some of the worst ones I’ve seen.
