Hawaii Family Dental - Kihei

Had two teeth extracted. Dr.did a great job one was difficult but 24 hours later and I have very little to no pain by following his instructions. Very happy with the results.

Well having to edit this review from 5 star to a 2 star due to the fact that my wife had an appointment on a Wednesday coming up and they called and canceled her appointment. Told her that the hygienist would not be working on Wednesday. Wife told them she could see any of the other hygienist but needed a Wednesday appointment. She was told that it would be over a year before she could get another appointment. Not good business practice for a loyal customer.

Dr Thomas and Jenn was so gentle caring and kind with precision I was able to relax during a tooth molding for a new porcelain cap. The drilling was actually very comfortable w/o novocaine. The temporary feels like a regular moulder. What an amazing clean and skilled team at HFD.

Today was my first visit at Kihei Family dental office, with Dr. Thomas. I needed sudden attention to a cavity gone bad on the lower right wisdom tooth. Dr. Thomas took care of it and was so kind, generous, gentle, and gracious with my situation. What a wonderful doctor and great visit! I would definitely recommend him!! :) -Amy M.

My girls love them!!!! My 8 and 11 year olds have no problems going for their cleanings every 6 months. The staff is amazing, friendly, and very professional. We have been coming here for a few years now and I highly recommend them.

I have been going to Hawaii Family Dental, Kihei, for the past 10years. My experience has always been excellent with the caring office management and professional stafUNTIL approximately three years ago. Due to the recent owners and all ofthe high techaccounting practices and office innovations, I have been witness to the eroding moral and high turn over of the professional staff. BEFORE, there were at least 3 general dentist plus the visitng specialists. These highly trained professionals had time to spend with each patient, and I always felt that they had time to listen and be concerned. This past week, my dentist had 31 patients to service in his 8 hour day, meaniing that he was alloted 15 minutes for each patient. AND also he is the only full time professional general dentist on staff. He was still the same excellent, caring, dentist under this stress, as were the dental hygenists.The word on the street is that this A+ dental office is being run into the ground by the present buyers. What a shame.
The personal touch has been scheduled out.

I have a long history of fear and anxiety related to the dentist, so this was the last place I wanted to go ! I'm not talking about a little fear...I'm talking about the...I've seen a therapist and have taken anti-anxiety meds and still didn't make it to past appointments and haven't been to the dentist in over 10 years...kind of scared !!

After dealing with a toothache for over a month, I decided it was time to take the plunge. After finding out which dentists took my insurance and reading dozens of reviews, I decided to go with Hawaii Family Dental. I can now say I definitely made the right decision !

I was honest with them from the start about my experiences and my fears, and not once did I feel belittled or looked down on for my fears..it was the opposite. I was handled with care and gently. As a grown man I should be embarrassed by this irrational fear, but I am not, I fully embrace the problem I have with the dentist! They took their time, explained everything in detail and made sure I knew what to expect every step of the way.

I work in the healthcare field, so I have a preconceived notion of what a positive patient experience should entail, I can say this clinic exceeded my expectations. Rusty, Rowena and Chastity in the front are professional, always smiling, and make sure I know exactly what is happening with my appointments, my insurance coverage and co-pays; their smiles and greeting set the tone for the entire office. Dr Thomas is great, during the exam and with the work I've had so far, he has been professional and patient, he checks in with me often and makes me feel like he actually cares about me while in his chair. His assistant, Emily, is just as great. She checked in just as often and got me talking about life in general, great at distracting me while she was doing what she had to do. I had to have a deep cleaning ( of course I did, ugh ), and my hygienist, Christy, was great from the moment I sat in her chair, nervous as hell !! She could tell and made me forget about what was happening in no time!

Can't say Thank You enough to the crew at Hawaii Family Dental - Kihei for making it such a positive experience ! You've got a new regular patient here !

We’ve been coming here for a few years now for our 5 year old daughter and everyone here has been nothing short of amazing. Our daughter has been shy and has been scared at times about coming to the dentist because of the tools and sounds but every time we’ve come the people here have been sweet and really knew how to comfort and calm our daughter. Such a great Dentist.

My unplanned visit was met by an entire staff who was quick, efficient, and friendly. A more pleasant trip to the dentist would be difficult to find. If you are in need of any dental work, you will undoubtedly have a positive experience at Hawaii Family Dental in Kihei. They will be my family's new dental homeport.

Confusion at times between doctors and assistances. Didn't know how many teeth to pull, didn't feel good hearing that. different doctors almost every time I came in. Was on time and got called 45mins after appointment time. Good nice people but seems to be overwhelmed with clients.

Terrible experience, we thought we had caught a cold and we rescheduled our appointment for our 3 year old son. When we tried to call back to reschedule his appointment they told us we needed a covid test for him. I refuse to put a 3 year old thru that for absolutely no reason. We will be finding a new dentist that wants to help our son who is having pain, not put him thru more pain. Stay away from this office, they are super rude too!
