Poorly managed, unprofessional staff, very bad scheduling. My kid had an appointment on a day with the orthodontist who was on maternity leave. Waited two months for the appointment. we walk in and the orthodontist wasn't there. Had to reschedule for another month for the next opening.

I had concerns about total extraction of my teeth, However, Dr. Ma was amazing at keeping me calm and talking to me throughout the procedure.
She was excellent talking me through the procedure about what was happening and coming up. Later, as I began to get impressions made for dentures she was nothing more than extremely informative and performed an excellent job! My dentures fit so well, it was amazing! I highly recommend Familia Dental, especially if all locations have such skilled and caring professionals!

This visit was the worst yet by far. 🥴Waited patiently for over an hour with my two kids ,ages 4 and 8 in the waiting room, for a scheduled appt which I made online because my son missed his last appt for fillings due to being in quarantine from a school exposure to covid 19.

The office already had all of our information , we registered online as instructed via text and have also been there previously . As stated before , my son missed his last appt for a filling , and the dentist still thought it was okay to have a hygienist or tech spend 5 minutes cleaning his teeth , which is great but not what we came for and then barely looked at his x-rays and asked me if I remembered what he told me last time, and I said" yes he needs a filling that why we're here," he says "no, this appt was just scheduled as a check up, but he does need fillings" and to "schedule another appt. to get them done."

-NO! That is what I scheduled the appt FOR and the care that they KNEW he needed should have been provided, they already put it off at his last appt and didn't take care of the issue after diagnosing it and I let it go then, but trying to put it off again is a huge red-flag to me that you will no longer be providing our dental care.

At this point the dentist had no answer at all other than "we just can't do that today, it wasn't scheduled like that", became flustered , and brought back his manager asking us to just schedule another appt and she again mentioned they "hadn't had lunch."
it has been months now since they put the first one off, and couldn't get him in until now.

The cavities have since multiplied (there are now 3) and they want to put it off YET AGAIN because they "haven't been to lunch" in the dentists own words!

It is not mine or my son's fault that Familia Dental offices in Decatur IL are clearly over working the patient load and schedule of these dentists as a whole . I scheduled an appt for follow up pediatric dental care , we did not walk in and we do have insurance , and although it is state insurance , it is insurance none the less, and as a nurse , I personally I consider it to be medicaid fraud when a practice is taking patients and charging state insurance but not providing the real warranted acute, routine and preventative dental care that is medically necessary at the time .
I think the better business bureau will tend to agree with me. It was a difficult decision to do this as we have limited options currently but it was clear to see they were far more concerned with their own time conservation than they were with repairing or preserving my child's teeth, even after we waited patiently for them as well.

This was not my first bad experience at familia , they also once tried to get me to sign a consent forms for extractions when only performing a routine dental exam and cleaning on my 5 yr old son. We did not wish to give legal medical consent for any extractions, so politely explained that and I requested another form.the tech then argued with me about it to the point I had to be rude and literally refuse to sign it and request the manager get a new form.. this was not the first bad experience there, but it was definitely the LAST!- We will absolutely NOT be back!

I brought my 10 year old in for an emergency visit due to dental pain. They got him in the back right away and took care of the dental issue. The staff was very kind and patient as my child has anxiety and was very nervous about what was going on.
