Familia Dental

It's the best place I have been, as far as a dentist! They are very good and polite. They do all they can to make you feel better. I love it. Very good.

My first experience wad great but the 2nd time I brought my 4yr old in for his 2nd tooth extraction which he did great the 1st time but 2nd was horrible I had a different dr and they were not children friendly my son kept asking what things were used for hes curious but once he noticed them getting annoyed and tapping their instruments on the metal table he starting freaking out. The dr was clearly annoyed and while the dr and assistant left the area they were talking to others about how he was being a pain and they'd try 1 more time then give him to someone else because they didn't have time. I'm currently pregnant and just this 1 appointment had not only traumatized my son but me and my other son just from witnessing. ( I only had issues with this specific dr and assistant every other I have seen there were great!)

This was the most disorganized and poorly managed practice I’ve ever been too. I waited almost two months for an appointment, arrived 15 minutes early, and wasn’t seen for over an hour and a half. I spent a total of 7 minutes with the dentist who didn’t do a full cleaning, openly speaking about how she had 5 other patients to see within an hour. Really terrible time management, waiting area was not clean, & staff was not welcoming.

I know familia doesn’t always get the best rep but today was hands down the best experience I had yet the doctor I had so calm and patient. My front tooth had cracked in half so I walked in in a lot of pain one of the workers told me I could wait inside until the place opened and made me feel very welcomed. I experienced zero pain well until the meds wore off but by then my meds were ready to pick up! The whole staff is very friendly

Keisha, spell check, did an AMAZING job. She made sure I was comfortable and we talked like we knew each other our whole lives which made my experience so much better. My dentist did an amazing job and is working with me and with the best intentions with what will work best for me. This is why glad I chose to come to the Decatur location instead of Champaign. Thank you guys!

I'm giving 5 stars because I really love everyone at Familia Dental in Decatur. That being said - no one should question a child's favorite color. My son said he wanted a pink toothbrush and he was met with a "really"? So he of course said "I like red too" and of course he was given 2 red toothbrushes. Not a huge deal overall but what was the point in even asking what color he wants if you weren't going to allow him to choose?

The first visit wasn’t a very good experience. The dental hygienist was very insensitive about how long my mouth stayed open for her to clean & I had to taste & swallowed the horrible polish paste. There also isn’t much privacy at this dental office, it’s an open space where you can hear kids crying & screaming.

Then my second visit, I walked in & nobody was at the front desk to greet me. I thankfully didn’t have to wait long to get in, however there wasn’t enough dental hygienists available to clean teeth. The dentist had to cleaned my teeth only using the hydrosonic Water-pick, moving quickly to do so. She only looked over the X-rays in a minute or less. Overall, I was seen for 10 minutes or less.

I am used to having better dental care, with better health insurance where they do a more thorough cleaning & professional job. However, here they do not offer that type of service. I believe the healthcare insurance I have offered through my work isn’t very good! My preferred dentist doesn’t take their insurance. I feel like I get only government insurance as a teacher, in which I believe we deserve so much better!

I am giving it two stars bc of the wait time to get in. I am in extreme pain and me and my child both need help and the first available appointments are two months away. There should be exceptions to emergency needs and not accepting new patients if they can not get their current patients in for so long!

Dr. Gaub was wonderful, however making a 2 hour round trip, I was greatly disappointed because they decided that I needed permission from my family physician before any of my urgent dental care could be done because my antibiotic was taken earlier that morning and not just prior to my dental appointment!

So while at Familia, I phoned my doctor's office and received verbal approval, but the dental tech talked to them and asked them for a faxed permission paper to be sent despite the verbal approval. My doctor's office shared they would send it to Familia immediately, which they did.

However, when received, the dental Familia tech deemed it inadequate and gave me a paper for my dr. to sign and fax back to Familia and sent me home!

I was in the dental chair for a minimum of over an hour and a half, and was released without tending to my dental emrrgency due to their need of Familia's special signed permission slip.

Now I need to see my family physician to give him this paper to sign and to fax back to Familia before they will make another appointment for me.

I have been on 1000mg twice daily when I went to Familia, and took 1000mg already that morning, however they indicated the antibiotic would have needed to be taken right before the dental procedures.

The round trip ride to my family physician is approximately 50 minutes and the round trip to Familia is over 2 hours round trip!

I would suggest in the future that when Familia makes ANY appointment, ESPECIALLY an emergency, they should fax our family physician ahead of time to obtain Familia's required permission paper!

I am so upset because Familia could have faxed Familia's permission paper in the first place to my doctor, instead of deeming my doctor's fax inadequate.

Now, I am still in much pain and still can't eat because the dental procedures were not done!

DO NOT ATTEND ANY FAMILIA DENTAL APPOINTMENT WITHOUT BEING PRE-MEDICATED WITH AN ANTIBIOTIC JUST PRIOR TO YOUR APPOINTMENT IF YOU HAVE ANY METAL IN YOUR BODY FROM ANY PREVIOUS SURGERIES.

ALSO GET A COPY OF FAMILIA'S REQUIRED PERMISSION SLIP PRIOR TO YOUR FAMILIA DENTAL APPOINTMENT, AND TAKE IT TO YOUR FAMILY PHYSICIAN FOR HIS/HER SIGNATURE, OR YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE DENTAL SERVICES ON THE DAY OF YOUR APPOINTMENT!!!

Dentist and staff were very nice. My teeth cleaning was so light I couldn't really tell anything had been done. Such a gentle touch.
